W.E.B. Du Bois

W.E.B. Du Bois was a scholar and activist who became the first African American to earn a doctorate from Harvard. He  was the best known spokesperson for African American rights during the first half of the 20th century. Du Bois co-founded the NAACP in 1909.

Emma Goldman

Emma Goldman was an anarchist known for her political activism, writing, and speeches. She played a pivotal role in the development of anarchist political philosophy in North America and Europe in the first half of the twentieth century.

Cesar Chavez

Cesar Chavez was an American farm worker, labor leader and civil rights activist, who co-founded the National Farm Workers Association. A Mexican American, Chavez became the best known Latino American civil rights activist, and was strongly promoted by the American labor movement.

Occupy Wall Street

Issues raised by Occupy Wall Street were social and economic inequality, greed, corruption and the perceived undue influence of corporations on government, particularly financial services. This protest movement began on 9/17/11 in Zuccotti Park, located in NYC's Wall Street financial district.
