Dietrich School Seeks Candidates for Director of Cultural Studies

The Cultural Studies graduate program in the Dietrich School of Arts and Sciences is an important interdisciplinary unit for graduate students from the Humanities and Social Sciences. I am constituting a search committee to be chaired by Professor Nancy Condee to recommend candidates for appointment as the next Director of the program beginning in spring term 2024. A new Director will build on the work of previous directors and shepherd the program into the mid-21st century.

All tenure-stream faculty in the Dietrich School with teaching and research interests in cultural studies are welcome to apply.

Competitive candidates will present a vision for how to attract and nurture graduate students interested in cultural topics within an interdisciplinary framework; build an innovative and cutting-edge program for the mid-21st century; foster interdisciplinary collaborations; and advance the diversity, inclusion, and equity goals of the School and University.

The initial term of appointment will be three years, with renewal possible. Key tasks will continue to be course selection, advising, programming, governance, and competition implementation, in consultation with affiliated faculty.

For priority consideration, interested candidates should send a short letter of application, a statement of vision for the program (no more than three double-spaced pages), a current cv, and a brief statement of support from their department chair to cultural@pitt.edu by October 25. Terms of the appointment will depend on the scope of the successful candidate’s vision.
